Transformation Program: This program is a faith-based initiative designed to change the lives of the chronically homeless population who are suffering from alcohol and drug dependency, co-occurring issues, HIV and those at risk for HIV. Guided by our team of professional counselors, the program’s goal is to guide our clients and motivate them to choose a stable and healthy lifestyle that leads to permanent independent living.

Linkage to Care Program: Available to service recipients in the “pre-covery” stage (seeking or in need of recovery, also referred to as the “pre-contemplation” stage). We offer our Linkage to Care program, a peer-led addiction recovery support service consisting of 3 Peer Specialists who literally canvass inner-city Atlanta communities engaging homeless substance users in dialogue aimed at linking them with publicly funded detoxification programs, publicly funded evening outpatient treatment programs, and peer-led recovery support services, as a method for beginning the recovery process.

Recovery Center: The Center is home to more than 40 weekly 12-step, faith-based, health specific, gender specific and family specific support groups. We are the only inner-city Atlanta Recovery Center that offers Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous meetings. The others offer only Narcotics Anonymous meetings. In addition, we are the only Recovery Center in Atlanta that offers faith-based, HIV and HCV support groups.

Better Parents = Better Kids: This is our 10 week parenting program offered in partnership with Simpson Street Church of Christ, one of our faith-based partners. The program provides intense education for 10 parents over a 10 week period focusing on relapse prevention and improved parenting skills. The workshops are 2 hours each and held at the church site. The parents are involved in 12-step and/or faith-based recovery and respond to an advertisement, posted at our Recovery Center, announcing this program. They are interviewed and selected by the group of Peer Specialists facilitating the workshops. Special consideration is given to parents within their first year of recovery. We offer each parent a $20 gift certificate for attending each workshop and a bonus gift certificate of $20 for parents who complete all 10 weeks, on time, and participate in the graduation ceremony. We have 5 Peer Specialist who lead 2 groups each in this peer-led support service.

SAVED SISTA: This faith-based, peer-led substance use recovery and HIV prevention program that targets African American homeless, substance using women. Our primary purpose is to meet our women where they are and empower them through education. Our approach includes the utilization of peer-specialist…a special group of women in recovery, who empower clients by teaching them how to reduce behaviors that put them at risk for chronic homelessness, ongoing substance use, HIV-infection and intimate partner violence.

HIV Testing

The OraQuick ADVANCE® Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test:
The test detects antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2 in 20 minutes, enables patients to earn their status in a single visit and allows HIV positive patients to be connected to care immediately. Its accuracy is greater than 99% agreement with confirmatory Western blot and ideal for both clinical and non-clinical settings. It is patient preferred for it offers accurate HIV testing without the need for blood or needles. Pain-free testing with oral fluid means more people get screened, more HIV positive patients are connected to care and fewer people are exposed.

Housing

Peer-led transitional housing program: Our peer-led transitional housing program provides a safe and therapeutic living environment for up to 31 service recipients in early sustained recovery. We, at present, have 8 apartments where we house service recipients in an environment that promotes abstinence from drug and alcohol use, helping to ensure that they remain in recovery. Each apartment has a “house manager” or “senior resident” who serves as a lead resident and responsible for the maintenance of program rules and regulations. Our transitional housing program is within walking distance of a public subway station and our Recovery Center.

Employment

Entrepreneurial Program: Available to service recipients with 2 years or more of sustained recovery. We offer this Program which lasts for 24 weeks (6 months) and prepare individuals in recovery for careers as business owners. At the conclusion of the program, participants are eligible to receive a start-up check of up to $15,000. Our Entrepreneurial Program is a collaboration with AMEN, Inc, Atlanta’s leading micro enterprise organization focusing solely on business development for individuals in addiction recovery.

Workforce Development Initiative: Available to service recipients with a minimum of 1 year sustained recovery. We offer a Certified Addictions Counseling (CAC) training program, duration of 3 years (11 training sessions per year), that prepare individuals in recovery for a career as an Addictions Counselor. At the conclusion of this training, participants are prepared to take the counseling certification examination offered by either NAADAC or IC & RC, our nation’s leading credentialing agencies for addiction professionals.

Recovery @ Work (RAW): This is an apprenticeship program offering employment opportunities for up to 25 service recipients who are residents in our transitional housing program. Service recipients in this program learn skills related to both residential and commercial painting and pressure washing, lawn care skills, and roofing. In addition to employment opportunities, service recipients also get the opportunity to network and bond with each other as a strategy for sustaining their recovery. They work together during the day, have lunch together at noon, and participate in outpatient treatment and/or support groups together in the evening.

Intern/Volunteer Program:  Our program is designed to provide individuals with an unforgettable positive experience. To this end, we go to great lengths to ensure we are clear about what to expect from each of our interns/volunteers. We also recognize that Interns/Volunteers deserve to know what they can also expect from us. We recruit individuals for specific roles or jobs, and job descriptions are available for potential candidates. The descriptions specify whom the volunteer reports to, general duties and responsibilities, and any specific tasks to perform. Job descriptions also indicate the level of expertise and education required for the job. Candidates who are interested in certain positions will be required to complete an application form and submit a resume. Upon invitation, the candidate is assigned to a supervisor who guides and monitors the individual during their stint at RCA, Inc.
